Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3

Today saw the release of Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3. This is mostly a security and (one hopes) bug fix release, but the new beta does contain a few new features, including drag-and-drop tab reordering, interface improvements, and some feed-reading improvements. You can download the new beta for XP at Microsoft’s IE site. According to IEBlog, this is the last beta release for IE7 and the next version will be Release Candidate.
The only problem is for the guys without a genuine copy of windows. Like the earlier to versions, this cant be downloaded without going through the windows genuine adv.. check.

Flock Beta 1 released

the Firefox-based “social web browser” is still alive and kicking, and with the release of Flock Beta 1, a.k.a. version 0.7, the Flock team has kicked it into public beta mode. Though when the first alpha was released Flock was pretty easy to dismiss as, well, alpha software, the new beta looks compelling, with speed and stability improvements, lots of new features for photo management, feed-reading, search, favorites, and blogging.

Firefox 2.0 alpha 2

Mozilla has released a 2nd alpha version of Firefox 2.0. As usual, this release is not recommended for any kind of serious use, but if you’re salivating at some of the new version’s features, check out what has been incorporated in this 2nd development milestone:

 * Links default to opening in new tabs, not new windows

* Close buttons now appear on every tab, and the close behavior is slightly different
* Inline spell checking in text boxes (Works well, though apparently not on all sites yet)
 * Automatic restoration of your browsing session if there is a crash
* Search suggestions now appear in the search box auto-complete for Google and Yahoo!

* New search plugin manager for removing and re-ordering search engines

* Improved support for previewing and subscribing to web feeds
* New microsummaries feature for bookmarks (Really interesting new feature)

* New Add-Ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes

* Updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions

* New search service that supports Sherlock and OpenSearch engines

* Support for SVG text using svg:textPath

Opera 9 Beta 1

It’s been a long time coming, but they’ve finally stuck the familiar Beta tag on Opera 9 and kicked it out the door. As won’t surprise you, most of the change since the last preview build are bugfixes, but since the last major version there’s a whole pile of new features, including built-in BitTorrent downloading, a content blocker, thumbnail previews for tabs, site-specific preferences, and widgets.

Big Internet Explorer Exploit

Microsoft has confirmed that a newly-discovered vulnerability exists in Internet Explorer that the security companies are calling "significant" and "highly critical." Of course, you won't find such scary language on Microsoft's milquetoast advisory page, but the vulnerability (for which researchers have released proof-of-concept exploit code), allows malicious web sites to run arbitrary code on victims' machines. No patch exists, but Microsoft says an effective workaround is to disable Active Scripting in IE and that Outlook and Outlook Express are not vulnerable.
more than 200 web sites
have been altered
by hackers to include malicious code to exploit it. Sites being seeded with infectous code include
small business sites that most users would never suspect of harboring malicious software. When an Internet Explorer user
visits such a site, all kinds of malware may be silently installed on their computers, including programs which steal
passwords and credit card numbers. Microsoft has yet to release a patch and likely won't for another two weeks when
Patch Tuesday rolls around. They're still advising users to disable Active Scripting, but Krebs is recommending much
more direct action that I echo: drop Internet Explorer and install Firefox or Opera.
